Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Clarified syrup
Provides sweetness and a smooth, fine-textured body as the mixture freezes.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the flavor and balances the sweetness of the syrup.
Pistachio nuts
Add a crunchy texture and nutty flavor against the smooth frozen base.

The step that matters

When nearly frozen, add essence of citron and pistachio nuts. Adding flavorings and nuts too early, or too late, changes how evenly they distribute. Partly frozen mixture is slushy enough to hold the nuts in suspension, while a fully hard base would not blend them in evenly.

Swap the lemon

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (syrup, pistachio, nuts):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Coconutfits better
  3. Cherryfits better
  4. Lemonthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against syrup, pistachio, nuts. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
