What each ingredient does

Sweet cream
Whipped into a light froth that sits on top of the coffee and adds richness.
Brewed coffee
Forms the liquid base of the drink and carries its bitter, roasted flavour.
Boiling milk
Warms the cup and adds creaminess that softens the coffee's bitterness.

The step that matters

Whip the sweet cream until light. Cream should be whipped only until it thickens into soft, spoonable froth. Over-whipping turns it grainy and can cause it to separate, while under-whipping leaves a thin layer that sinks into the hot coffee.
