What each ingredient does

Pineapple
Its pulp forms the bulk of the salad and its shell serves as the bowl.
Oranges
Add juicy sweetness and bright citrus flavor to the fruit mixture.
Strawberries
Contribute sweetness, aroma and soft texture to the mixture.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the sweetness and helps keep the cut fruit fresh-tasting.

The step that matters

Chill the mixture on ice for at least 1 hour. Cold slows enzyme activity and softening in cut fruit, and chilling lets the flavors blend and the salad serve crisp rather than watery.
