The flavor team

The pairs that carry this dish. Each one is judged two ways: how much their aromas overlap, and how often cooks already put them together.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sugar
Sweetens the ice and lowers its freezing point so it stays soft and scoopable.
Ripe grapes
Provide the main flavor and the juice that forms the body of the ice.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the grape flavor and balances the sweetness.
Powdered sugar
Dissolves easily into the partly frozen mixture, adding sweetness without creating large ice crystals.

The step that matters

Stir in powdered sugar when partly frozen. Adding sugar only after the mixture is partly frozen lets it blend in evenly. Sugar dissolves best in liquid, so adding it too early or too late can leave a grainy or uneven texture.

Swap the grape

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, lemon):

  1. Orangefits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Vanillafits better
  4. Grapethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
