Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no cooking times; the times in the steps were added in transcription, so check for doneness rather than trusting the clock.

  1. Spread butter on the slices of bread.

  2. Layer the bread in a dish, adding currants and optional sliced citron, orange, or lemon between each layer.

  3. In a bowl, mix milk, eggs, pimentos, and ratafia.

  4. Pour the mixture over the layered bread and let it soak for at least 2 hours before baking.

  5. Optionally, create a paste around the edge of the dish for a decorative finish.
