Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a slow oven”. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).

  2. Layer sliced potatoes in the bottom of a deep pudding dish.

  3. Add a layer of minced cold meat on top of the potatoes.

  4. Place a few slices of tomato over the meat.

  5. Add a layer of thinly sliced onion and season with salt and pepper.

  6. Repeat the layers until the dish is full.

  7. Pour diluted stock or gravy over the entire dish.

  8. Cover the dish and bake for two hours.
