Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Hops
Adds bitterness and aroma, and helps preserve the liquid.
Flour
Provides starch that feeds the yeast and thickens the mixture.
Potatoes
Add starch and body, supplying material for the fermentation to work on.
Sugar
Feeds the yeast, driving fermentation and carbonation.

The step that matters

Let it stand until Thursday, then bottle it.. Fermentation needs time to produce carbonation and flavor. Bottling too early can leave the brew flat and sweet, while waiting too long can build excess pressure in sealed bottles.

Swap the potato

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (hops, sugar, flour):

  1. Mustardfits better
  2. Arrowrootfits better
  3. Parsnipfits better
  4. Potatothe original

Fit is the average pairing score against hops, sugar, flour. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
