Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a quick oven”. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

Prepare the filling

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples.

  2. Chop the suet and add it to the apples along with the currants and raisins.

  3. Mix all ingredients together and add the juice of the lemon.

Assemble and bake

  1. Line a tin with flaky pastry and fill it with 1 teaspoon of the mixture.

  2. Cover with pastry and top with the candied peel.

  3. Bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven until golden.
