Ingredients
Directions
The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Peel and core the apples.
Roll out the short pastry and cut it into pieces to cover the apples.
Place each apple on a piece of pastry, add a little sugar and a clove in the center.
Cover the apple with the pastry, sealing it well.
Bake with the rough side down for about 30 minutes.
Transcribed from a scanned cookbook and modernised for today's kitchens. Where the book gave no heat or time, or said "a moderate oven", the temperatures and times here may be modern equivalents rather than the book's own figures.
