Rendering Lard
Ingredients
Directions
Grind or chop the fat into small pieces.
Melt the fat over mild heat, stirring constantly until it reaches a thin gruel consistency.
Sprinkle enough coarse sea salt over the surface to help separate scraps from the fat.
Allow the mixture to settle, then strain the clear fat into another vessel, removing all scraps.
Cook the strained fat for 15 minutes to roast any remaining scraps.
Store the lard in a cool place; it will keep for a long time.
