What each ingredient does

All-purpose flour
Forms the dough's structure once mixed with liquid and fat.
Baking powder
Releases gas during cooking so the dough rises and becomes light.
Unsalted butter
Cut into the flour to create a crumbly, tender texture in the dough.
Milk
Hydrates the flour to bind the dough together and adds moisture.
Sour apples
Provide the fruit filling, with tartness that balances the sugar.
