Fancy Baked Potato

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare the filling

  1. Cut off the end of the baked potato and remove the inside.

  2. Mash the potato and mix in milk, butter, salt, and pepper.

  3. Place the mixture back into the potato shell.

Add bacon and heat

  1. Fry the bacon until crisp and stick it into the end of the potato.

  2. If using, add grated cheese before heating until melted.

  3. Heat the stuffed potato in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through.

What each ingredient does

Potato
Provides the starchy base that the mashed filling and shell are built from.
Butter
Adds fat for richness and a smoother, more tender mashed texture.
Milk
Adds moisture so the mashed potato becomes soft and easy to spoon back in.
Bacon
Adds savoury, salty flavour and crisp texture from its rendered fat.
