What each ingredient does

Oysters
Are the main ingredient and are cooked briefly until lightly browned on the outside.
Eggs
Bind the cracker coating to the oysters so it adheres during frying.
Rolled crackers
Form a crisp, golden breadcrumb-style coating that browns in the hot butter.
Butter
Conducts heat in the skillet and adds richness and browning to the coating.

The step that matters

Drying the oysters before coating. Removing surface moisture helps the egg and cracker coating stick evenly, and dry surfaces brown better; wet oysters would steam, loosen the coating and splatter in the hot butter.
