Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Suet
Adds fat that melts during boiling, keeping the pudding moist and rich.
Eggs
Bind the mixture and give it structure as the pudding sets.
Bread crumbs
Absorb the liquids and give the pudding body and a soft crumb.
Milk
Adds moisture and helps the batter combine into a smooth mixture.
Currants and raisins
Provide sweetness and chewy texture throughout the pudding.

The step that matters

Tie a floured cloth over the mold and boil it for 6 hours. The cloth must be sealed tightly so water cannot enter, and the pudding must boil steadily for the full time so it cooks through and sets firmly.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (currant, raisin, egg, nutmeg, bread, brandy, milk):

  1. Figfits better
  2. Vanillafits better
