Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Provide the main body of the balls, with the yolks forming a rich, crumbly base.
Raw egg yolk
Binds the mashed yolks together so the mixture holds its shape when rolled.
Flour or potato starch
Absorbs moisture and helps the mixture hold together during shaping and boiling.

The step that matters

Rolling and boiling the balls. The mixture is soft and can fall apart if it is not mixed well and rolled firmly. Boiling only briefly in soup keeps the raw egg yolk set on the inside without making the balls tough.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, pepper, flour):

  1. Turmericfits about as well
  2. Parsleythe original
  3. Nutmegfits about as well
  4. Jalapenofits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, pepper, flour. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
