Oven, in the book's wordsA cool oven

Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a cool oven”. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. In an enamel pan over gentle heat, combine flour, butter, golden syrup, ground ginger, lemon juice, and sugar.

  2. Stir continuously until well mixed.

  3. Drop teaspoonfuls of the mixture 6 inches apart onto greased baking sheets.

  4. Bake in a cool oven at 300°F (150°C) until light golden brown.

  5. Once slightly cooled, shape by placing on rollers or over a rounded stick.
