Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cream
Its fat gives the frozen mixture a rich, smooth texture.
Syrup
Its sugar adds sweetness and keeps the frozen texture softer.
Lemon juice
Its acidity brightens the flavour of the cream base.
Orange marmalade
Adds sweetness and concentrated citrus flavour.
Dried cherries
Add sweetness and a chewy, fruity bite.

The step that matters

Mince the fruit finely. Fine mincing spreads the marmalade, cherries and angelica evenly through the cream. Large pieces can sink, cluster or freeze into hard, uneven bits that spoil the texture.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (lemon, angelica, syrup, cream):

  1. Vanillafits about as well
  2. Orangethe original
  3. Limefits less well
  4. Raspberryfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against lemon, angelica, syrup, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
