Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bread crumbs
Form the bulk of the pudding and soak up the milk to create its body.
Eggs
Bind the mixture and set as it cooks, giving the pudding its firm, custardy texture.
Milk
Softens the bread crumbs and provides the liquid that gives the pudding moisture.
Powdered loaf sugar
Adds sweetness to balance the richness of the eggs and milk.

The step that matters

Stir in the eggs, beating well. Beating the eggs evenly into the soaked crumbs distributes them through the mixture so the pudding sets uniformly. Unevenly mixed eggs can leave pockets that set unevenly or stay loose.
