Apple Charlotte

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Peel, core, and quarter the apples, then convert them into pulp.

  2. Simmer the apples with sugar and a little butter until soft.

  3. If the apples are too dry, add cider or lemon juice and more sugar.

  4. Butter a plain mold and line it with strips of fried bread.

  5. Ensure the bread adheres firmly to the sides of the mold.

  6. Fill the mold with the apple marmalade.

  7. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F (175°C) until set.
