Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Brown sugar
Provides fermentable sugar that the yeast converts into alcohol and carbonation.
Yeast
Ferments the sugars, producing alcohol and carbon dioxide that carbonates the beer.
Hops
Adds bitterness and aroma that balance the sweetness of the sugars.
Ginger
Adds a spicy aroma and flavour to the beer.

The step that matters

Skim the mixture well. Skimming removes foam and floating solids from the surface before bottling, so less sediment and residue end up in the bottles and the beer stays clearer.

Swap the ginger

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, hops, syrup, dandelion):

  1. Cinnamonfits better
  2. Gingerthe original
  3. Nutmegfits less well
  4. Clovefits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, hops, syrup, dandelion. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
