Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Artichokes
Provide the main body and flavour of the soup once boiled and sieved.
Milk
Cooks with the artichokes to form the creamy liquid base of the soup.
Onions
Add savoury depth and aroma to the soup base.
Cream
Adds richness and a smooth, silky texture when stirred in at the end.

The step that matters

Adding the cream just before serving. Cream held at a simmer for long can separate or turn grainy, and it thins the flavour if boiled hard. Adding it last keeps the soup smooth and rich.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (milk, artichoke, pepper, cream, sugar):

  1. Spinachfits better
