Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a slow oven”. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

Make the dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine the treacle and melted butter, stirring well.

  2. Add the ground ginger, preserved lemon peel, preserved orange peel, pounded coriander seeds, pounded caraway seeds, and the egg. Mix well.

  3. Gradually add flour until the mixture forms a paste.

Shape and bake

  1. Shape the dough into nuts of your desired size.

  2. Bake in a slow oven at 300°F (150°C) until done.
