Meat and Vegetable Pie

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. In a bowl, mix the minced meat with bread crumbs.

  3. Line a dish with pastry and add a layer of the meat mixture at the bottom.

  4. Add a few cleaned oysters, then the boned limbs of chicken, turkey, or rabbit.

  5. Layer in peas or spinach, forcemeat balls, and small mushrooms.

  6. Pour in rich gravy and thicken it with cream and flour.

  7. Top with a thick layer of bread crumbs and brush with beaten egg.

  8. Bake in the oven until golden brown.
