Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Tangerine oranges
Provide the main juice, with sweetness and bright citrus aroma.
Lemon
Adds acidity that balances the sweetness and sharpens the flavor.
Ordinary oranges
Add more juice and body to the base, along with their peel aroma.
Syrup
Sweetens the juice and softens the texture by lowering the freezing point.

The step that matters

Sweetening with syrup. Sugar lowers the freezing point and limits ice crystal growth. Too little syrup can leave the ice hard and icy, while the right amount keeps it smoother and easier to scoop.

Swap the tangerine

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (orange, lemon, syrup):

  1. Limefits better
  2. Vanillafits better
  3. Blueberryfits better
  4. Tangerinethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against orange, lemon, syrup. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
