Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Provide the main body of the balls, with the yolks forming a rich, creamy filling.
Raw egg yolk
Binds the mashed yolk mixture so the balls hold their shape.
Flour or potato starch
Absorbs moisture and helps the mixture hold together when rolled and boiled.

The step that matters

Boil the balls in soup for 2 minutes. Boiling briefly sets the raw egg yolk binder so the balls firm up and hold their shape without falling apart in the soup. Cooking longer can make them tough or cause them to break apart.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, pepper, flour):

  1. Turmericfits about as well
  2. Parsleythe original
  3. Nutmegfits about as well
  4. Jalapenofits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, pepper, flour. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
