Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Hard-boiled eggs
Provide the main body of the balls, firm and crumbly when mashed with the yolk.
Raw egg yolk
Binds the mashed yolks together so the mixture holds its shape.
Flour
Absorbs moisture and helps the mixture hold together when rolled and boiled.
Chopped parsley
Adds fresh, green aroma and flavour to the mixture.

The step that matters

Mix the ingredients well until combined. If the mixture is not evenly combined, the raw yolk and flour will not bind the crumbly cooked yolks, so the balls may fall apart when boiled.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, flour, pepper):

  1. Turmericfits about as well
  2. Parsleythe original
  3. Nutmegfits about as well
  4. Jalapenofits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, flour, pepper. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
