Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Fresh milk
Adds richness and softness, mellowing the bitterness of the coffee.
Clear strong coffee
Provides the main coffee flavour and aroma that the milk is blended into.
Egg whites
Whipped to a froth, they add a light, airy foam to the top of the drink.
White sugar
Sweetens the drink, added by the cup so each serving can be adjusted.

The step that matters

Combining coffee and milk. The milk must be boiling hot and added alternately with the coffee while stirring gently. Hot milk blends smoothly, while adding it all at once or cold can cause uneven mixing and a less silky texture.
