Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Pineapple juice
Provides the main liquid and fruity flavour of the dessert.
Gelatine
Sets the liquid into a firm, sliceable gel as it cools.
Granulated sugar
Adds sweetness and body to the juice.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the pineapple flavour.

The step that matters

Let it boil for 2 more minutes.. Gelatin needs to be fully dissolved and evenly distributed, so stir it in well first. Prolonged or vigorous boiling can weaken gelatin's setting power, so keep the boil brief and controlled to get a firm set.

Swap the pineapple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, lemon):

  1. Orangefits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Vanillafits better
  4. Pineapplethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
