Ham, Boiled
Ingredients
Directions
Choose a sweet ham; check by inserting a sharp knife near the bone. If it smells agreeable, it's good.
If the ham is very dry and salty, soak it in water for 24 hours, changing the water frequently. For Yorkshire or Westmoreland ham, 8 to 12 hours is sufficient.
Wash the ham thoroughly and trim away any rusty or smoked parts.
Place the ham in a pot and cover it with cold water. Bring it to a boil gradually, skimming off any scum that rises.
Simmer gently until the ham is tender.
