Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Provide the structure that sets into the body of the omelette.
Butter
Adds richness and flavour, and helps the omelette brown in the pan.
Shallot
Adds a mild aromatic onion flavour to the egg mixture.

The step that matters

Stir gently until the eggs begin to set. Eggs cook quickly over medium heat. Stirring gently keeps curds small and tender, while overcooking or high heat makes the omelette tough and dry.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, onion, shallot, butter):

  1. Capersfits better
  2. Parsleyfits better
  3. Tarragonfits better
  4. Clovethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, onion, shallot, butter. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
