Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Parsnips
Provide the main body and thick, starchy texture once cooked and pressed.
Veal stock or broth
Supplies the liquid base and savory flavor for the soup.

The step that matters

Stew gently until the parsnips are tender. Parsnips must be fully softened before pressing through a sieve, otherwise the purée stays grainy and lumpy. Gentle stewing cooks them evenly without breaking the stock into a cloudy boil.

Swap the parsnip

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (veal, pepper, cream):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Spinachfits better
  3. Carrotfits better
  4. Parsnipthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against veal, pepper, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
