Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Bind the batter and add structure and richness to the cooked pancakes.
Milk
Provides the liquid that hydrates the flour and loosens the batter.
All-purpose flour
Forms the main structure of the pancakes as its starches set during cooking.
Ground ginger
Adds aroma and warm spice flavour to the pancakes.

The step that matters

Mix the flour with a little milk, then gradually add the rest.. Blending flour into a small amount of liquid first prevents lumps, so the batter stays smooth and spreads evenly in the pan.

Swap the ginger

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, milk, flour, butter):

  1. Nutmegfits better
  2. Cinnamonfits better
  3. Capersfits better
  4. Gingerthe original
