Apple Dumplings Baked

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Make the paste using the same method as before, adding 2 oz. of butter or dripping and 1 dessertspoonful of sugar.

  2. Divide the paste and enclose each apple in a piece.

  3. Roll each dumpling into a round shape.

  4. Brush the tops with beaten egg or milk and sprinkle with sugar.

  5. Place the dumplings on a greased baking sheet.

  6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 30 minutes.

  7. Optionally, add a clove, grated lemon rind, or nutmeg in the core of each apple for flavor.
