What each ingredient does

Cherry syrup
Provides the sweetness and cherry flavour of the drink.
Fresh cream
Adds richness and creates a foam when shaken and poured with soda water.

The step that matters

Pour the mixture into a glass, creating a good cream foam.. The cream must be shaken well with the carbonated water so it aerates and forms a stable foam on top. Under-mixing leaves the drink flat and the cream sitting in a layer instead of a light, airy head.

Swap the cherry

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (syrup, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Raspberryfits better
  4. Cherrythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against syrup, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
