Cake Pudding

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Place broken bread in a bowl.

  2. Pour boiling water over the bread to cover it.

  3. Cover the bowl with a plate and let it soak until soft.

  4. Drain the water and mash the bread with a fork until smooth.

  5. Mix in dripping, salt, nutmeg, sugar, and currants or raisins.

  6. Grease a pie dish and pour the mixture into it.

  7. Bake in a well-heated oven at 350°F (175°C) until the top is browned.

  8. Serve with jam or wine sauce if desired.
