Why it works: Sugar and sauce match in chemistry and in kitchens. They rank in the top 13% of all ingredient pairs, and cooks put them together in 5,147 recipes. Both carry ethanol, which smells alcoholic, ethereal. The science ↓

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Dough
Encloses the peach and fries into a light, puffed shell around it.
Peach
Provides sweet, juicy fruit filling that softens and flavors the fritter as it cooks.
Hot lard
Conducts heat to fry the dough, browning its surface and crisping the outside.

The step that matters

Fry slowly. Frying too fast browns the outside before the dough cooks through and the peach warms, leaving raw dough inside. Slow, steady heat lets the interior set fully.

Swap the peach

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (flour, sugar, sauce):

  1. Raisinfits better
  2. Vanillafits better
  3. Avocadofits better
  4. Peachthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against flour, sugar, sauce. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
