Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Peaches
Provide the main fruit body and flavor of the preserves.
Sugar
Sweetens the preserves and helps set the thickened fruit as it cooks down.
Oranges
Add acidity and aromatic citrus flavor from the juice and finely chopped rind.
Nuts
Add texture and a crunchy contrast to the soft preserved fruit.

The step that matters

Cook until clear, stirring frequently. Sugar and fruit must cook long enough to thicken without scorching on the bottom of the kettle. Frequent stirring spreads heat evenly and prevents sticking and burnt flavor.

Swap the nuts

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (peach, orange, lemon, sugar):

  1. Almondfits better
  2. Pistachiofits better
  3. Chestnutfits better
  4. Nutsthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against peach, orange, lemon, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
