Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Peaches
Provide the main fruit body and natural sweetness and flavour of the preserve.
Sugar
Sweetens the preserve and, with the fruit's pectin and acid, helps it thicken and set.
Oranges
Add acidity and aroma; the chopped rind contributes bitterness and fragrance.
Nuts
Add crunch and texture to the finished preserve.

The step that matters

Cook until clear, stirring frequently. Sugar dissolves and the fruit softens while water evaporates; stirring prevents scorching on the kettle bottom, since sugar-rich mixtures burn easily and turn bitter.

Swap the nuts

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (peach, orange, lemon, sugar):

  1. Almondfits better
  2. Pistachiofits better
  3. Chestnutfits better
  4. Nutsthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against peach, orange, lemon, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
