What each ingredient does

Apples
Provide the firm, crisp body of the salad and a tart flavor that balances the sweetness.
Oranges
Add sweetness, juice, and bright citrus aroma to the fruit.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens flavor and helps slow browning of cut apple.
Pulverized sugar
Sweetens the fruit and dissolves slightly into the juices.
