What each ingredient does

Parsnips
Starchy root that softens into a tender, sweet vegetable when boiled through.

The step that matters

Boil until fully tender, timing by age. Old parsnips have a tougher core and need much longer boiling than young ones. Testing for tenderness rather than relying only on the clock prevents undercooked or hard centres.
