Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Peel and chop the apples.

  2. Mix the apples with sugar and cinnamon.

  3. Combine melted butter with stale bread crumbs.

  4. In an earthen dish, layer the ingredients: start with a layer of bread crumbs, then add the apples, followed by more bread crumbs, and finish with a top layer of bread crumbs.

  5. Dot the top layer with small pieces of butter.

  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until golden.
