Stuffed Potatoes

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare the potatoes

  1. Cook the potatoes until tender.

  2. Carefully cut off one end of each potato, keeping the hull intact.

  3. Scoop out the insides of the potatoes into a bowl.

Fill and bake

  1. Season the potato insides with butter, salt, pepper, and grated onion.

  2. Fill the potato hulls with the seasoned mixture.

  3. Place the stuffed potatoes in a pan and bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven until heated through.

  4. Serve hot.

What each ingredient does

Potatoes
Form the edible shell and the soft, fluffy filling once cooked and scooped.
Butter
Adds fat and richness, making the mashed filling smoother and more flavorful.

The step that matters

Scoop out the insides without tearing the hulls. The hull is the container for the filling, so it must stay intact. Cutting too close to the skin or scooping too aggressively can puncture it, and the filling may leak during baking.

Swap the onion

The recipe marks onion as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (potato, butter, pepper):

  1. Capsicumfits about as well
  2. Chivefits about as well
  3. Onionthe original
  4. Carrotfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against potato, butter, pepper. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
