The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare the filling

  1. Cook the cauliflower until tender.

  2. Sauté the mushrooms in butter until cooked.

  3. Cut the cauliflower into small pieces and mix with the mushrooms and cream sauce.

Stuff and bake

  1. Soak the green peppers in hot water for 10 minutes.

  3. Place the filled peppers in a pan and bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven until heated through.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cauliflower
Forms the bulk of the filling, adding body and a mild vegetable flavour.
Cream sauce
Binds the filling and adds moisture and richness so it stays creamy when baked.
Mushrooms
Add savoury, earthy flavour and a meaty texture to the filling.
Green peppers
Act as edible cups that hold the filling and soften as they bake.

The step that matters

Soak the green peppers in hot water. Soaking softens the pepper walls so they bend without cracking when filled and then cook through in the oven.
