Ginger Drop Cookies

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare the dough

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, molasses, shortening, and eggs.

  3. Add the baking soda, ground ginger, and spices, then stir in the cold water.

  4. Gradually mix in the flour and a little salt until combined.

  5. If you prefer soft cookies, add enough flour to roll out the dough (about 1 cup).

  6. Optionally, fold in raisins before dropping the dough.

Bake

  1. Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto a buttered baking pan.
