Hard Gingerbread

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare the dough

  1. Mix the ingredients to form a dough that is hard enough to roll out like biscuit dough.

  2. Roll the dough to a thickness of about ½ inch and cut out small biscuit shapes.

  3. Alternatively, bake the dough in a sheet or on a biscuit tin.

  4. Cut slits about ¼ inch deep across the top of the dough from side to side.

Bake and finish

  1. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F (175°C) until done.

  2. While hot, rub the top with molasses and let it dry.
