Apple Charlotte

Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a moderate oven”. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Cut the crusts off the bread and dip the strips in melted butter.

  3. Line the bottom and sides of a plain mold with the buttered bread.

  4. Fill the mold with sweetened apple puree, adding the lemon rind and juice.

  5. Cover the top with a piece of buttered bread.

  6. Bake in the preheated oven until golden.
