Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bread crumbs
Soak up the milk and give the pudding its soft, body-filled structure.
Milk
Hydrates the bread crumbs and provides moisture for a tender interior.
Grated cheese
Adds rich flavour and fat, and sets into the custard as it bakes.
Eggs
Egg yolks enrich and bind the mixture, while whipped whites lighten it and help it rise.
Butter
Adds fat for richness and a smooth, tender texture.

The step that matters

Folding in the egg whites. Whites must be beaten to soft peaks and folded in gently so the air they hold is not knocked out. That trapped air is what lifts the pudding as it bakes.

Swap the mustard

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (bread, milk, cheese, butter, egg, pepper):

  1. Capsicumfits better
