Ingredients
- 1 quart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 pound bread, sliced
- 1 lemon, zested and juiced
- 2 ounces butter, softened
- 4 tablespoons sugar

Butter a plain pudding mold generously.

Cut enough slices of bread to half fill the mold and spread them with butter.

Layer the apples in the mold, alternating with layers of bread and butter, sprinkling sugar and lemon juice between layers.

Cover the top of the mold to prevent burning.

Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.

Turn out onto a dish, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve hot.
