Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Cream the butter and add the light sugar and yolks of the eggs.

  3. Fold in the well-beaten egg whites.

  4. Gradually add the flour, alternating with the sour milk.

  5. Mix in the grated nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and brandy.

  6. Dissolve the baking soda in a small amount of vinegar and add it to the mixture.

  7. Pour the batter into molds and bake immediately.

  8. Serve fresh.
