Spice Cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. In a bowl, combine molasses, sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, and ginger.

  2. In a cup, mix baking soda and salt with hot water, then stir into the first mixture.

  3. Add flour and well-beaten eggs, then beat the mixture vigorously.

  4. Pour into a well-greased pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
